Meet the Apes
This is a sub-installment in the Watercross Season we will be following this summer. Please check the Category: Watercross 2017 Season to read the full series.
As we follow Team Yard Ape through their season there will be a lot of pictures with our racers in their gear; this means we will be relying more on their race numbers and sleds to identify them versus their faces. Below, we have the Apes listed with their names and some key facts about them.
#223 Aaron Vowles
Aaron is in his 3rd season with Team Yard Ape; he is racing his Polaris dubbed "Purple Rain" in the Semi Pro Open Class. He plans to be at all races in the 2017 season.
#524 Scott Martinson
Scott has been racing for a few years with Team Yard Ape but is also a member of Team "Won for All"; he will be racing in the Drag Mods Class; he is racing his 2010 Black IQR. He plans to be at all the races in 2017 season.
#183 Dan Boynton
Dan is in his 3rd season with Team Yard Ape; he is racing his Black Skidoo in the Semi Pro Stock Class. He will be at Grantsburg and the final BIR race in the 2017 season.
#174 Cory Kostreba
Cory has raced in the past but never full-time this will be his first full time season with Team Yard Ape; he is racing his Blue Polaris in the Semi Pro Stock Class. He plans to be at all the races in the 2017 season.
#8 Jerry Tongen Jr.
Jerry is in his 7th season with Team Yard Ape but has been racing for years in his own team "Won for All"; he is racing his Blue/Purple Skidoo in the Pro Stock Class. He will be at all the races in the 2017 season.
#508 Mike Popowitz
Mike is in his 3rd season with Team Yard Ape; he is racing his Blue/Green Arctic Cat in the Semi Pro Open Class. He will be at all the races in the 2017 season.
#527 Josh Smith
Josh is in his 6th season with Team Yard Ape; he racing his Green/Black 2012 Arctic Cat in the Semi Pro Stock Class. He states he will be at most of the races in the 2017 season.
#22 Easton Yamry
Easton is in his very first season on the water and with Team Yard Ape; he is racing his Orange/Black/White Skidoo in the Semi Pro Stock Class. He states he will be at all of the races in the 2017 except Moose Lake.
#999 Ben Eastman
Ben is in his 3rd season with Team Yard Ape. He is racing two machines this season, the first being a Gray/Orange Polaris Edge in the Semi Pro Stock Class and a Red/White/Blue Polaris Edge in the Semi Pro Open Class. He will be at all of the races in the 2017 season.
#128 Jacob Champa
Jacob is in his 4th season with Team Yard Ape; he is racing a Blue/Orange IQR 800 Mod in the Semi Pro Open Class. He will be at all the races in the 2017 season except Iowa.
#411 Salesse Tongen
Salesse is in her 3rd season with Team Yard Ape but she is also a member of team "Won for All"; she is racing her Blue/Purple Skidoo in both the Semi Pro Open Class and the 800 Stock Drag Class. She will be at all all the races the 2017 season.
#18 Adam Vowles
Adam is in his 3rd season with Team Yard Ape. He is racing two machines this season, the first being a Red/Black/White Skidoo in the Semi Pro Stock class and a Orange/Black/White Skidoo in the Semi Pro Open Class. He will be at all of the races in the 2017 season.
#813 Aaron Godeen
Aaron is in his 5th season but also a member of the team "Won for All"; he is racing a Polaris in the Pro Open Class for the 2017 season. He will be at all of the races in the 2017 season.
#127 Rocky Vowles Rocky has been an experienced racer for over 25 years with Team Yard Ape; he is racing a Black/White/Orange Skidoo in the Semi Pro Open Class. He will be at all of the races in the 2017 season.
#471 Corey Huls
Corey will be joining Team Yard Ape for his first full season in 2017; he is racing a Red/White/Blue Polaris in the Semi Pro Open Class. He will be at all of the races in the 2017 season.
#120 Korey 'KJ' Johnson
This is KJ's first year with Yard Ape; he is racing a Green Arctic Cat in the Semi Pro Open Class. He will be at all of the races in the 2017 season.
#913 Court Klaphake
This is Court's very first season in Watercross; she is racing a Black/White/Blue Polaris in the 600 Drag class. She will be at all of the races in the 2017 season.
#721 Emma Godeen
This is Emma's first season with Team Yard Ape and she is also a member of team "Won for All"; she is racing her Orange/White/Black Skidoo in the 600 Drag class. She plans to be at all the races in the 2017 season.
#188 Ian VanVickle
This is Ian's second season with Team Yard Ape; he is racing a Red/White/Black Polaris in the Semi Pro Open class. He plans to be at all of the races the 2017 season.
